The Southern Cross of the 4th inst. gives a gloomy account of the aspect of affairs in the Waikato district of which the following is the substance. The Ngatimaniapotos intend attacking Alexandra, to which place reinforcements have been, despatched. Rewi Maniapoto with whom, it is said, the 'White Cliffs murders originated is the prime mover in the rising, and it is reported, that he will commence operations by suprising the out settlements after which an attack is to he made on a more comprehensive plan. The kiug is represented to be totally averse to the attack, and the friendly natives are arming iv all directions in preparation for, the expected invasion. The Tauranga. correspondent of the same journal says that. Rewi and Te Kooti in conjunction, intend to invade the Taupo district, taking^^the Ara'was on their way. Should the Arawas meet with any great -diiaaster/itjwjil ;be a heavy blow to the Europeans as they are the most reliable and roost warlike of all our allies.
