CORRESPONDENCE.

To THE EdITOB OF THE NELSOIT EteNING MAIL. Sir— A poor broken-hearted mother, wants and craves your help. I have a son well-known to the people of Nelson, a son who is very dear to me, and more so now than ever, because he is in a distressing state of mind. In early life he j was ever most considerate and kind, ever considerate towards his parents, his only thoughts appeared to be concentrated in his lather and mother's happiness and comfort. No youth ' more industrious, more thoughtful, more active, as many of the settlers of Nelson well know. No son more loving to his father and mother, but when he appeared to be just upon the point of succeeding in all his arrangements, both for his parents' comfort, and his own future wellbeing, a strange and mysterious providence, sent a blast upon both his mind and his intellect, and he became at once an imbecile (but not vicious). He is now ia the asylum, shut up in a close room, all but suffocating, sinking for want of air and exercise ; even in this hot weather his window is closed. Whilst other patients have their windows open, and others are allowed to go outside and to breath the fresh air of heaven, my son is denied these blessings. I have been to see him to-day, and oh, how he begged and prayed that I would take him out into the fresh air ; but no, he is not allowed this privilege. My heart bleeds for him ; he is still my own dear son. Can you, Mr Editor help me, if you can, a mother's heart will thank you ever ? Yours, etc., Mary Jones. Nelson, Feb. 27, 1869.
