The Nelson Evening Mail. MONDAY, MARCH 1, 1869.
1 High Tide. — The tide yesterday morning rose to an unusual height, flowing over the Port road in several places, and - •completely covering Levick's wharf. A considerable amount of damage was done to the gardens at the lower end of the Wood some of which were altogether under water. It is supposed that the unusual height of the water was caused hy a gale outside the bay; fortunately there was no wind here at the time or much damage would have been done to the port road. , Commanding- Officer's Inspection : SPakadb.— We would remind our Volunteers the usual monthly inspection parade 'i "is to te held in the Botanical Gardens tomorrow evening at 6 o'clock. - Suez Mail — The Rangitoto, with the $uez Mail on board, arrive'd in harbor this "'morning from Melbourne via West Coast. ;: ;; AEBIVAt OF .THE HIMALAYA. — A teleZ'izj^ra was received this- morning stating sCj?th^V to the surprise, of everybody, the v^oop/ shipr v Himalaya steamed into ItDg tpn x harbor last night for the ; :?j^EDale; : -of convey ing home the 1 8th Regi-
