The Nelson Evening Mail. MONDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 1869. RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
This Day. (Before J. Sharp, Esq., R.M.) An information was laid by Mrs Mary Margaret Cordial against her husband John Cordial, for threatening on the morning of 8th February, to take her life, and application made that he might be bound over to keep the place. Mary Margaret Cordial sworn: Defendant came to my house this morning between 6 and 7 o'clock, and forcibly obtained entrance through the kitchen window; he then rushed into my bedroom with a tomahawk in his hand and threatened to take my life. Cross-examined by plaintiff: I was in bed at the time you entered ; a man who supports me was with me; he got up but did not leave until after you had left the house. By the Bench: My husband left me on the 4th August last, on which date an order of the Court was made that he should pay 10s per week for the support of my children. I have since then received only £2 from him. There was an understanding at that time that my husband and I should live apart. Defendant ordered to enter into recognisances to keep the peace for three months, himself in £30 and two sureties in £15 each.
