The combined forces, undei Col. Whitmore, consisting of 300 Ngatiporous, 300 Armed Constabulary, and 60 Arawas, stormed the outer wai! ou the sth, and in the afternoon it fell iuto their possession. During the night they approached the fortress itself, by rifle pits and sap. This fell at 3 a.m. on the 6th. Te Kooti in the meantime, with the remnant of his followers, escaped over the almost precipitous side of the mountain at the rear. The Ngatiporous and Arawas started in pursuit. 120 dead bodies of the enemy have been exhumed from the ditches, aud 80 prisoners taken, consisting of 14 meD, 50 women, and the rest children. The women were little more than skin aud bones, and little or no ammunition was fouud on the bodies exhumed. The loss on our side was small — 11 killed and 9 wounded, 1 dangerously. The Ngatiporous and Arawas behaved splendidly. Colonel Whitmore expects to capture Te Kooti, who is still lame from the wouud he received on the former engageraenf.
