ARRIVAL OF THE SUEZ MAIL.
The following telegram of news, received at Wellington, on the arrival of tbe English Mail, via Suez, at the Bluff yesterday morning, was published as an Extra, by our contemporaries this afternoon : — Wellington, January 2. General Prim has been appointed chief of the Spanish army. Mr. Disraeli suggested at Guildhall that Lord Stanley might offer mediation between France and Prussia. The Moniteur favors the proposal that the King of Prussia should be appointed arbitrator in the question of the Alabama claims. A mixed commission is agreed upon. The result of the elections in England gives 110 in favor of the Liberals. The Bishop (Tait) of London is appointed Archbishop of Canterbury, A Fenian demonstration took place in Hyde Park in commemoration of the Manchester executions. There are eruptions in Vesuvius. Rates of discount: 2 per cent.; Consols, 94|t094|. The Tasmanian submarine cable will be shipped in the end of December. A monarchy has been declared in Spain. Wool is ld. higher. There is civil war again in Affghanistan. London, November 27. The new Parliament includes Mr Disraeli, Mr Gladstone, Mr Bright, Mr Barnes, Mr Coleridge, Mr Gurney, and Mr Charles Reade j but Baron Rothschild, Mr Stuart Mill, Mr Roebuck, Mr Milner Gibson, Mr Bruce, Mr Karslake, Sir George Bowyer, Mr Bernal Osborne, and Mr Miall were rejected. The Liberal majority is 110. Parliament meets on 10th December.
