Crawford's Heatherbell was first, Lord Glasgow's Young Melbourne second, and Mr Merry's chesnut filly by Thormanby out of Sunflower was third. The Committee appointed by the House of Commons to revise the land laws of Ireland will report early in the next session.

The new submarine telegraph cable between Malta and Alexandria was completed on the 3rd October. Samuel Eatou, the station master at Abergele, who was prosecuted for manslaughter, in connection with the late fearful railway accident 'at that place, has been acquitted. Mr Disraeli has issued an address to his Buckinghamshire constituents in which he says that the policy of the opposition on the Irish Question would unsettle property, make confiscation contagious;, and give England over to Popery and the rule of foreign powers. The Liberals oppose the disestablishment of the Irish Church. Eumors says that the Duke of Aosta, Victor Emauuel's second son may be called to the throne of Spain. Paris, October 9. The French papers anticipate a civil war in Spain. Italy has appointed a Minister to Mexico, who will also represent France. Queen Isabella has issued a protest against the Spanish Revolution, to the effect that her right to the throne is not injured by it, and the that acts of the Junta are not binding. The Italian Prime Minister is on his way to Paris for the purpose of negotiating relative to certain concessions by, France. Admiral Farragut has been received with ovations at Athens. The Royal family of France went to Biarritz to meet the Queen of Spain. The report of the reduction of the Prussian army is contradicted. Considerable excitement prevails and almost approaches a panic in anticipation of a war between France and Germany or France and Italy. Negotiations for a new French alliance with Spain are progressing. The Emperor's speech at Chalons, was said to indicate war. Madrid, October 5. The Constituent Assembly having been elected, perfect order prevails. Mendez was appointed president of the Junta, but he declined. Aguire succeeds him. Serrano has been appointed General Chief. Novalichy died on the Ist from wounds received in an engagement with Serrano. General Colonge, of the Royalist army, has been arrested, and awaits his trial in the fort of Santona. Armed citizens occupy the guardhouses and posts around Madrid. Pezuela has fled to France. Queen Isabella took away with her all the crown jewels and regalia, and 26,000,000 of reals. The populace of Barcelona publicly burned the portrait of Queen Isabella. Bassot is appointed to the command in Catalonia by the Junta. Pjim is opposed to a republic. The diplomatic relations of the Great Powers in Europe with Spain remain in statu quo. Vienna, October 3. M. Deak, the Hungarian statesman, has been entertained at a banquet, and an address presented to him from the ambassadors of foreign powers. Copenhagen, October 5. The King says that the negociations with the Prussian Government on the Schles-wig-Holstein question have thus far been without result. Denmark desires peace with Prussia. The ratification of the sale of St Thomas and the other Danish West India islands to the United States is postponed for a year. •^ Berlin, October 5. King' William is reviewing the fleet at Kiel. A National Convention of French Canadians has been held at Springfield, and eight resolutions were passed, denouncing the new confederation, and the coercion of Nova Scotia, and favoring annexation to the United States^ or the formation of a republic. The English cricketers hare so far beaten all their opponents. Their closest match was with the Philadelphia club. The Spanish Minister at Washington is still recognised by the United States as the representative of Spaiu. The returns from Connecticut show a majority for the Republicans. That State goes with Grant for the Presidential election. George Francis Train has been nominated for Congress by the Fifth Congregation District.
