The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 1868.

NELSON BOARD OF WORKS. The usual fortnightly meeting of the Board took place last night at the office. Present: Messrs R. Burn (in the chair), Hooper, Percy, Burns, aud Field. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, Mr R. Burn brought up the report of the Public Works Committee, which recommended that certain works be carried out in the city, viz., to crown up the road and clear out the watertables in Hardy and Tasman streets, aud coat the crown of the Waimea-road with Boulderbank gravel to the width cf 14 feet. The stone bridge in St. Vincent and Vanguard streets was approved of, aud it was recommended that a lamp should be erected at the junction of Hardy and Vanguard streets, the lamp to be taken from the top of Trafalgarstreet, near the Examiner office. It was also recommended that a rail be put across the footway from the lamp-post near the Hospital, to the comer of the acre in Ex-aminer-street. The report was adopted. Mr D. Burns brought up the report of the Finance Committee, and having stated that the accounts had been examined and found correct, the report was adopted. Mr Webb proposed and Mr Percy seconded that?the Clerk or Collector to the Board be instructed to give to the Solicitor, H. Adams, Esq., authority to proceed against certain persons for the immediate recovery of arrears of rates, and that the Clerk to the Board write to Mr Adams, inclosing a copy of this resolution, which was carried unanimously. A letter was read from the Provincial Secretary, in reply to the application made by the Board for assistance in repairing the damage done to the Haven-road during the late storm, which stated that in the present position of the Provincial Funds, the Government considered that they would not be justified in granting money for the purpose, but that the services of the hardlabor prisoners at the Gaol would be placed at the disposal of the Board. Aa application was read from Mr Theodore Bloch, asking permission to erect a board in front of his photographic gallery in Trafalgar-street, and was referred to the Public Works Committee. Several accounts were passed, and the Board then adjourned until Friday the 21st inst.
