The first of a series of rifle matches between the members of No. 1 Company of Wellington Rifle Volunteers was to take place on Saturday last at the Adelaide Butts. It appears that several of the officers of H.M. steam corvette Brisk, which left Wellington last month for England, have t formed family alliances during her stay on the Australian station for the last four years. Just before leaving Sydney, three of the officers were married to N.S.W. ladies, who will probably proceed to England by mail steamer, and so be ready to welcome their husbands on their arrival at Plymouth. The Postmaster-General of N.S.W. detained the Kaikoura a few hours in order to afford merchants and others at Sydney the opportunity of replying to correspondence which they had received by the Suez mail. The Queeu left for Switzerland on the sth of August, and reached Paris on the morning of the 6tb, where she passed the remainder of the day, and left in the evening. She arrived at Lucerne on the 7th, much fatigued with the journey. Her Majesty, it is understood, will remain in Switzerland till the first week in September.
