HON. MR STAFFORD AND HIS CONSTITUENTS.

TO THB _$DITOtt OF THE NiiLSON .EVEN INO MAIL. Sir — Mr Stafford must certaiuly have been misinformed as to the judgment passed on his conduct by his constituents at the late meeting; and if the Chasrinan of that meeting has misled Mr Stafford in the manner uamed in the telegram, then is he totally unfit ever to be chosen as chairman of any future public meeting or indeed to be voted to any public ofiice whatever. Perhaps never were the words published in the Examiner over ten years ago (when Mr Stafford's New Provinces Act came into force) more justified than by the sentiments expressed and the feelings exhibited at the very large meeting alluded to. The following is the sentence passed on Mr Stafford by the editor of the Examiner : — ' The Prime Minister, Mr Stafford, has fallen into such thorough discredir, that, were he now to offer himself for re-election in Nelson, we really believe he would not poll a score of votes.' — Nelson Examiner, Jan. 29, 1858. The best method of testing the truth of the Chairman's unauthorised communication to Mr Stafford, would be by gettiuw up a requisition, calmly stating the grounds upon which Mr Stafford was called upon to resign his seat for Nelson (a thing, by the way, not attempted at the meeting). Although it is not to be expected that every elector who held up his hand against him at the meetiug will sign such a requisition, still there will be enough to convince the honorable gentleman that it will be useless to attempt to be reelected in any future election. Yours, &c, A Non-Electob.
