The Nelson Evening Mail. WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 1868.

■m^m^mmmmm*mmm^mmmmolmmmim~mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.Mam A telegbam from Wellington, received to-day, states that a ' caucus' meeting of the supporters of the Government had been held this morning, at which a resolution was adopted to the effect that all the Land Fund should be thrown into the General Revenue. Startling as this announcement may appear, we were not altogether unprepared for itis reception. We were aware that it was the intention of those who considered that great injustice would be done to some of the provinces, and especially to Nelson, by -the scheme proposed by Government in the adjustment of the loans, to advocate the throwing of the land fund into the common stock as well as the loans. Strong objections were made to this course by the Southern members, on the score that the arrangements of 1856 would be thereby virtually upset, arrangements which should be considered in the light of a solemn compact. But to this it may be replied that the engagement which stipulated that each province should pay interest on its own debts was as much a solemn compact as the arrangements of 1856, and, in fact, formed part and parcel of those arrangements. It is needless to remark that with the slight information that we at present possess, even as to wbether the Government will positively bring forward such a scheme it would be premature to offer any comments on the subject at present. At all events we may rest assured that there are those who are. watching with jealous care over the interests of the provinces which are likely to be most vitally affected by such a proposition, and who will not tamely submit to the perpetration of any injustice to the several provinces which they represent.
