The foiiowing significant words, taken from the South Australian Register, we recommend to the attention of our readers: — There is good news for old colonists from Geelong side. The days of the memorable and never-to-be-worn -out Sydney tweeds are about to be revived. In a short time the Government of Vietoria wiil be called upon to pay their promised premium of £1500 for the first 5000 yards of home made tweed. In a few years we shall be clothed in native wool at a less price than the Minories' slops cost us now. .Advance, Australia, and welcome to the carding machine ! A feeling has been spread by the local press that it is presumptuous to attempt to lessen, in this legitimate way, the enormous imports of manufactured goods from the mother country. It is high time this illusion — so unworthy the enterprise of British colonists — should be dissipated, and cast to the winds.
