The Nelson Evening Mail. THURSDAY, AUGUST 20, 1868. TELEGRAPHIC INTELLIGENCE.

Wellington, 9.14 a.m. The steamer Taranaki, which left this place at half-past 1 o'clock yesterday, struck on a rock in Tory Channel, about 20 miles from Picton. All on board were landed safely. The accident occurred about 5.30 yesterday evening. The Taranaki is now being towed into Bowden Bay, to be beached on the strand. The water is seven feet deep in the engineroom, and five feet aft. The Airedale has been dispatched to her assistance and to bring on the mails to Nelson. The Taranaki waß not insured.
