The Nelson Evening Mail. FRIDAY, JULY 17, 1868. TELEGRAPHIC INTELLIGENCE.

Wellington, July 17. 11.30 p.m. The Lord Ashley arrived yesterday from Napier, bringing intelligence that all the Maori prisoners at the Chatham Islands had escaped in a whaler, and had landed at Poverty Bay. A party of Volunteers under Captain Biggs had eet out for Poverty Bay, in order to recapture the prisoners, and Colonel Whitmore was to follow, with another force. No further information from Patea has v been received by the Government. 200 Volunteers are to be dispatched at once to Patea, under Captain Buck.
