A Volunteer, named Robertson, of the Sandhurst (Victoria) Corps, summoned by liis captain for one shilling, being the amount of his monthly subscription, has been ordered by the Sandhurst bench to pay the debt, with five guineas costs. The bill for reducing the salary of the Governor of Victoria, has been vetoed by the Queen. The total amount of gold exported from the colony of Victoria, since the beginning of the year is 849,690 ounces, of which 79,374 ounces were transhipped from New Zealand. During the corresponding period of the previous year the entire quantity exported was 690,009 ounces, and of this total 86,439 ounces were from New Zealand. From a report furnished by the Government Resident at Nicol Bay, it would appear that the pearl fishery on the northwest coast of Australia is very prosperous. Notwithstanding the number of boats now engaged in it, the returns average a ton of shells per 27 days for every white man employed. A ton of shells will readily sell in the colony for £100, giving £25 a week for each white man engaged in the venture. - The Queensland says: — The cotton is now coming into town very fast — almost faster than it can be housed. Efforts are made by the ginners to get through as much work as possible, in order to enable shipments to be made by the Queen of the Colonies; but the quantity of cotton waiting to be cleaned increases daily, and the most of it will have to wait for the Bayswater, which vessel has just been laid on the berth for London.
