NELSON BOARD OF WORKS.
The usual fortnightly meetirjg of the Board of Works took place at the office yesterday evening, at which all the members were present, except Mr Bentley. Mr R. Burn, M.P.C., was in the chair. 1 The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. The Public Works Committee recommended that Mr Wilkie's request, relative to cleaning out some ditches in Oollingwood-stre'et, received at the last meeting, be acceded to, and also that the lately formed portion of that street be gravelled at once. Tenders to be received for this latter work, and also for the gravelling of Trafalgar-street south, starting from Brougham-street, and ending at ' Van Diemen-street, near Mr Percy's residence, by the next meeting of the Board. Tenders will also be required for the formation of footpaths, and making up the road, from Mr Davis's gate on the Waimea-road to Hampden-street, as well as for lengthening a culvert on the road. The report was adopted. The Secretary was instructed to have the ditches and road repaired in Nile-street West. It was resolved that tenders should be . called for the supply of Boulder Bank Gravel, to be landed near Auckland Point, to the, amount of £150, for the repair of roads. An application from Mr. Field, asking for the determining of the front line of the Steamboat Hotel, on the Haven-road, was read, and the Secretary was directed to supply, if possible, the information required. A motion was' brought forward by Mr Webb for the erection of a pedestal lamp with drinking trough, &c.,- witbt receptacle for the hydrant and hose, at the junction of Trafalgar [and Bridge Streets, near the 'Cab Stand, and the Secretary was instructed to prepare a plan and estimate for the same by the next Board meeting. A letter was received from Mr Bartlett, offeriag to pay one-half the exoense of a culvert 70 feet long, in Washington Valley, which was referred to the Public Works Committee, together with an offer from Mr Garrard to clear out some ditches on the Haven-road. The Secretary was instructed to reply to a letter from Mr Everett, relative to the watercourse in Nile-street, leading from Campbell's mill-shoot. Mr Hopgood applied to the Board for leave to ' make an addition to the Tollhouse on the Waimea Eoad, on condition of paying a peppercorn rent, the further consideration of which was deferred to the next meeting of the Board. Letters were read from Mr Oliver and Mrs Moorhouse, relative to gorse, and to watercourses, to which the Secretary was instructed to reply. . Upon the certificate of the Surveyor, an advance of '£ll4 ss. 6d. on account of the Bridge on the Haven-road, was made to Mr A. Adams, the contractor, and also of £10 to Messrs Patteson and Townsend, contraotors for the cutting in Brontestreet. The Board then adjourned until Friday the sth June.
