An interesting debate took place in the convocation of the province of York on Feb. 6, on the proposal for a reconciliation between the Wesleyan Methodists and the Church' of England. The Geelong Register , writes :— ' A party of Ballarat gentlemen passed through Rokewood on Good Friday, en route for Lake Corongamite, fully equipped as sportsmen should be. Unlike true sportsmen, however, they paid no heed to the sanctity of the day, aud on Easter Sunday they were busily engaged in dealing out death to the rabbits that are so numerous near the shores of the lake. Whilst so engaged one raised his head above a cover of bushes, and immediately received .a charge from a companion's gun full in the face, one shot entering his mouth. To add.to the disaster, .the gun of the wounded man in falling went off" and burst.' The unfortunate was removed to where surgical attendance could be procured, but the probable issue of the accident has not been reported. Had the; Qhief Secretary for Ireland bad an opportunity on the 25th February, of presenting to Parliament an Exposition ' ■ of the Irish Ministerial policy, the Owl believes there is little doubt that among other respires he would have announced Ihe desire ofl the Cabinet that a. charter . ; sliouid be gran ted to the Catholic Uni ver- '; sity .of Ireland, without any reference to 7v Trinity College or the Queen's Colleges.
