NELSON VOLUNTEER ARTILLERY COMPANY.

The first annual meeting of this Company took place yesterday evening at 7 o'clock, at the Fire Brigade Room in Har ley-street, and was well attended, upwards of 40 members being present. Captain Pitt took the chair, and having explained that the meeting was called in accordauce with one of the Rules which provides for the holding of half-yearly general meetings, for the reception of the report of the Secretary and Treasurer, congratulated the Company on the efficient state at which they had arrived, after an existence as a corps of little more than a year. Captain Pitt then expressed the obligations of the Compauy to the Wakapuaka Artillery Company, who had lent them their gun for several months for practice, and called upon the Secretary, Sergeant Moss, to read the report for the half-year ending May 11th 1868, having previously announced his readiness to listen to any suggestion which any member of the corps might wish to make in reference to them. The Balance Sheet was also read, which showed a balance to the credit of the corps of £41 19s. 3d., in addition to unpaid fines and subscriptions still to be received. On the proposition of Lieut. Wilkie, seconded by Bombardier M'G-ee, the Report was adopted, and the balance sheet passed. It was resolved, affer some discussion, that the Management Committee shall consist of three Commissioned Officers, one Sergeant, one Corporal, one Bombadier, and one Gunner, three to form a quorum, and that the admission of members should be vested in the Management Committee. Sergeant Moss having declined to be re-elected Secretary and Treasurer, Gunner Connal proposed and Sergeant Moss seconded the nomination of Sergeant G. Hodgson to these offices ; Sergeant Sadd being proposed by Sergeant Gr. Hodgson, seconded by Gunner Wimsett, and Gunner Connai being proposed by Sergeant Camp and seconded by Gunner Burns. Captain Pitt having passed a high eulogium on the able manner in which the duties of the office had been carried out by Sergeant Moss, and Gunner Connal having declined to be put .in nomination, an equal number of hands were held up for the two other nominees, and. Captain Pitt | gave his casting vote in favor of Sergeant Sadd, who was declared duly elected. 1 The following were then elected members ot the Management Committee: — Sergeant Sadd, Corporal Lloyd, Bombardier Smith, and Gunner ,Connal. Sergeant G. Hodgson and Gunner Richardson were re-elected Auditors. A general wish was expressed in favor of the erection of a drill shed for the use of the Company. Lieut. Hunter Brown stated that he had been informed that a | similar feeling existed amongst the mera-

bers of the City Rifles, No. 1, and he thought that by their joint action this end might probably be achieved. On the proposition of Captain Pitt, secoDded by Gunner Connal, a vote of thanks was unanimously given to Sergeant Moss for his services as Secretary and Treasurer during the past year. Gunner Counal proposed, and Corporal Pickering seconded, a vote of thanks to the Fire Brigade, for the use of their room on the occasion. The proposition that a Volunteer Ball should be given on her Majesty's Birthday appeared to find very general acceptation, aud Captain Pitt promised to confer with the officers of the other Volunteer Companies, with a view to its organisation. A vote of thanks having been given to Captain Pitt for his conduct in the chair, the meeting separated.
