Mr Caples, one of the prospectors, is now on his way to Melbourne, to obtain light machinery capable of being carried by men to the reef; but even if he succeed, it can only be in an indifferent manner. Powerful machinery is needed, but until the Government provide the meanß of access to the reefs, they must remain comparatively idle.
