The Westport Evening Star of Thursday says : — Another sad accident occurred at Addison's Flat yesterday. It seems that a poor fellow named Nelson, while removing some slabs in his claim, the earth gave way and buried him alive. His mates and some friends worked hard for a time to extricate him, but as fast as they removed earth from the shaft it filled up again. Thus they were ultimately necessitated to sink a fresh shaft in order to get to the unfortunate man. Up to a late" hour last night Nelson was alive and able to communicate with those on the surface. There is some hope, therefore, of saving hira.

The Yeomanry Cavalry (says the Court Journal) numbers about 15,000 men, and ••sts the country about £40,000 a year.
