VOLUNTEER RIFLE MATCH.
The match between ten members of the City Rifles No. 1, and an equal number of the Waimea Company took place yesterday at the Waimea West Butts, and resulted in a decided victory for the latter Company by 37 points. The weather was very auspicious during the day, and a considerable number of spectators were present on the ground. It wili be seen that with one exception — the score made by Corporal L. Gully — the firing of the City Rifles by no means bore out the prestige they have lately acquired by their firing for the representative and district prizes. The Waimea Company indeed took the lead from the first round, and were never overtaken. The return match is to take place on Monday the 13th proximo, at the Butts iv Toi-toi "Valley, when we must hope that better fortune may attend our city marksmen.
