The Bank of New South Wales is negotiating on behalf of the Government of New South Wales, through the Rothschilds, for a loan of £1,000,000 sterling for railway purposes. The crew of the ship Campbell of Leith, 675 tons, which arrived in the Clyde from Moulmein with teakwood, have been singularly unfortunate. While on the passage from this country to Bombay tbe master G. W. Roy, died from the effects of swallowing an overdose of laudanum taken to relieve pain — he was sufferingfrom internal ihflamation. He was 23 years of age, and belonged to Dundee. James Laurie, an ordinary seaman, aged 16 years, belonging to Liverpool, fell from the maintopsail yard and fractured his skull. He died next day. George Matthews, au ordinary seaman, aged 20 years, belonging to London, was washed overboard by a heavy sea on the passage home. James M'Lellazr, a seaman, aged 21 years, belonging to Greenock, was drowned at Mooiniien by the scaffolding- giving way as he and other two mea were painting the ship's side.
