CLIFTON, GOLDEN BAY.

[FROM A CORRESPONDENT.] On Saturday evening last a meeting of the electors of Clifton and Motupipi was held in the schoolroom at plifton, for the purpose of hearing from Mr Wastney. M.P.C., one of the candidates for the representation of the Golden Bay District in the General Assembly, an exposition of his views on various political questions of the day. Mr Wastney delivered an able address, and showed a complete acquaintance with the subjects which came under review. He had evidently thoughtfully studied the matter, and presented to his audience figures and calculations to show in what quarters a great reduction might be effected in our present costly Government. Provincialism versus Centralism the Pauama Mail Service, the Government Printing Establishment, the Telegraph, salaries and offices, an income tax, and a general reduction of expenditure were the principal topics dwelt upon. Several questions were put by electors present, to which Mr Wastney replied satisfactorily. The meeting which was numerously attended for that part of the province, then separated after a cordial vote of thanks to Mr Wastney for his straightforward and honest address. Motupipi, March 11, 1868.
