To Mr E. WASTNEY, M.P.C., Suburban North. SIB — As Mr A. J. Richmond, the present member for the district of Golden Uay n the House ot Representatives, is about to leave for England, we, the undersigned electors of this district, are desirous of securing the services of some one of sound and honest political principles, practical experience, and common oeuse, to represent our interests in tiie New Zealand Parliament. You are a tiied servant of the public, aud one iv whom we can pia.e confidence, the mure particularly as you have n > private ends to serve, either lor yourself or lainuy connections, in the way of place seeking, which is the great baue of our present Government. In our opinion it is not at all requisite that a member of the House ot Representatives should reside in the district which el cts nitn, however desirable it may be that a member .oi the Provincial Council should uo so; as the former ougut to represent the province at large and tue general wellbeing of tne colony, wlnlsi the latter ought to be acquainted ivith the special requirements of the district he represents. The present costly double postal service, needless offices a .d salaries, and a remodelling of our tariff duties, call for the earnest and serious attention of legislators; iv tact, a general retrenchment of the pubdc expenditure is indispensably requisite, more especially as the greater portion of ihe runus so reoideSoly squandered are 'contributed by the working classes or the country, upun whom an undue share of the burden of taxation presses most heavily. Knowing that your views on thosj matters coincide with o"ur own, we respectrully request that you will allow yourse.f to ue put iv nomination at the lorthcoiuiug election as our meuiOer of the House of Representatives. We are, sir, Yours very truly, Jabez M. Gibson, J. 2. 11. W. Burt George C. Gilbert Robert R. Fellowes Janus Baird Patrick Byrne Joseph i'aukard S. \V. sigiey Francis 11. M. Ellis E. Tolly C.
