THE WAIMEA DINNER.
To the Editor of the Nelsox Evening Mail. Sir — I am anxiously waiting for the author of a letter signed 'Volunteer,' which appeared in your issue of Tuesday Jast, to declare himself, as 1 am desirous of having an opportunity afforded me of refuting certain false statements made by him in that letter. Of course, sir, his name is known to you, and it is just within the bounds of possibility that you may have some influence with him ; if so, will you kindly endeavor to persuade him to come out of his hiding-place. You might hint to him that, as a rule, to stab in the dark is not one of the characteristics of our Volunteers, and that his letter, as long as it remains unacknowledged, is a slur upon the whole force. Perhaps, if this were pointed out to him, a sense of shame might induce him to do that for which he evidently lacks courage, namely, to avow himself openly. Until he does so, this is the last notice I shall take either of what he has written or of anything he may think fit to write hereafter. Yours, &c, Fras. J. Blundeix.
