Friday, January 3, 1865. Present : Messrs. Bentley (in the chair), Burn, Burns, Webb, Hooper, and Field. Minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. Tlie Fimnce Committee reported through Mr Burn and Mr. Honper that they had examined the books of the Board for the last month, and found them correct. A letter was read from H. E. Curti«, Esq., applying for permission to remove his fence in Par. ra-street. Permission granted to remove ic four feet. The Public Works Committee reported that they had examined the ground near the Postboy Hotel, complained of by llr Potter, and that at the Port, complained of hy Mr ii. Levein and others, and in both cases they recommended that the road be made up, aiid gravelled. They also suggested that the attention of the Secretary be drawn to the culverts on the Haven road, which had been obstructed by the laying of the water pipes. The Secretary was instructed to see the Previncial Engineer on the subject, and that the roads are put in the same condition as they were before the pipes were laid. A letter was received from Mr F. B. Josephs, requesting permission to erect veiandah -posts in front of his shop in Trafalgar-street. Permission v/as granted on condition that the lower rail be seven feet from the ground. A letter was read from Messrs Morcombe & Knight, asking permission to erect hoarding in front of Mr Jones's intended new premises in Trafalgar-street. The Secretary was instructed to inform Messrs Morcombe & Knight that sufficient space was to be left n the footpath for the use of passengers. A discission relative to the Inspector of Nuisances, which had been postponed from last meeting of the Board, then ensued, the matter ultimately being again deferred until the next meeting of the Board. The levying of the rates for the financial year 1867-8 was next discussed, when it was proposed by Mr Webb and seconded by Mr D. Burn, that the rate for the ensuing year be $ d. in the pound. An amendment was proposed by Mr J. Hooper and seconded by Mr Field, thab x the rate be Id. in the pound. The amendment carried. A letter was read from Mr Adam, applying for balance of contract account, which was ordered to be paid. A letter from Mr Denny was read, asking for leave to erect a verandah in front of his premises jn Collingwood-street. Perm ssion was granted on condition that it be done under the inspection of the Secretary. A letter was read from Mrs Moorehouse, requesting permission for her cattle to pass over the wattling near Scotland-street. After considerable discussion, it was suggested that a read be made there provided it can be done without injury to the present work. A letter was received from the Provincial Secretary, informing the Bo*rd that Mr Hibble had be*, en engaged by the Provincial Government to make an assessment of buildings within ceitain limits of the city, in accordance with the Waterworks Act, 1863. and requesting the Board to instruct the Secretary to place the Assessment book of the Board at the dispotal of Mr Hibble, for ihat purpose. Mr. Carter applied by letter for permission to reuiov- the cart wei.h- bridge near his pr -perry in Hardy-street. The matter was left hi the hands of the Secretary. The Board then adjourned until Friday, the 17ih instant.
