The attempt to cut down the salary of the Governor of Tasmania has been defeated. Her Majesty has disallowed the bill passed iu the Tasmaniau Parliament last session to reduce the salary of Colonel Gore Browne from £4000 to £3000 per annum. It is stated that Colonel Browne has never drawn the full sum to which he was entitled, and that the unappropriated balances are now to be expended in the reception of Prince Alfred.
