The Steward's Cup at Goodwobd on the 30th July was won by Mr W. Driukrow's Tibthorpe (Kenyon) beating 34 others. The Goodwood Stakes, run on the following day, were won by the Duke of Beaufort's Gomera (Fordham) beating 11 others.
Two artillerymen were blown away from the mouth of an 8-inch gun at Gosport, at the late naval review. One died almost instantly and the other is crippled for life.
Judge Johnson, of the district of Bedford, Canada Jiast, the same who tried the Fenians recently, has just disposed of a curious case. A man provided the funeral expenses of a deceased brother, who died in extreme poverty, and, among other things furnished, the candles burned in the church on the occasion; after the funeral he took tome with, him the halfconsumed .caudles. i The Cure claimed these as;. a.perqui site, and the man went to law about it.
