CRICKET MATCH.
The match between our Waikato visitors and a Nelson Eleven, which took place on Victory-square yesterday, terminated a little before 5 o'clock, in a decided victory for the Nelsonians, who left the field with seven wickets to go down for their second innings. The ground was in a wretched state, of which fact several players during the day received , r painful evidence. The batting and bowling of Messrs. Steadman and H. Cross, on the Waikato side, deserves especial mention, and we may congratulate the Nelson Club on the acquisition to their ranks of so neat a player as the last mentioned gentleman, whilst Messrs. Clark, Lloyd, J. Cross, and Taylor well sustained their reputation on the Nelson side. The ill-success of the Waikatos in their first innings seemed in no wise to damp their spirits, and they bore their beating with the best possible grace. We subjoin the score : — WAIKATO.
