carried out in Nelson during the last few months. buildiug, which is of very chaste and appropriate design, is intended to serve the purposes of a warehouse and retail shop, being of the most capacious dimensions, and of very massive character, every care having been taken to ensure the stability of the foundations, which are of Boulder Bank stone, the base being formed of Sydney stone. The frontage occupies fifty-five feet, with a depth of fifty-one, the height to the top of the parapet being thirty feet three inches. The front is supported on red pine beams bearing ironplates in the centre, and supported on two iron columns. This, however, we are inclined to regard as an error in judgment, as, in view a of possible conflagration, wrought iron beams would surely have been preferable. However, every other possible precaution has been taken to guard against such a contingency, the building being provided with a parapet three feet above the gutter, and a party- wall carried 18 inches above the roof. The front elevation is in the lonic style, stuccoed with Portland cement, and having rusticated cornices supported on pilasters. The wholesale department will occupy two floors of forty-nine feet by twenty-three feet six inches, the showroom measuring twenty-eight feet by fourteen feet, and the shop thirty-six feet by twenty-seven feet six inches. Besides these, there are several smaller rooms, the' whole of which are fitted in the most substautial manner, due regard beiug had to lighting aud ventilation. The building has been erected from the designs and under the superintendence of Mr Henry j Mr W. B. Smith being clerk of the works. The bricks used in the construction of this building were manufactured and supplied by Mr Osman, the stone lime by Mr Lukins, the plastering having been intrusted to Mr Peroival, the plumbers' work to Mr Gore, and the painting, etc., to Mr Louisson. The cost of this building, which constitutes one of the principal ornaments of Trafalgar-street, was about 3000/, exclusive of fittiugs. The barque signalled this morning, aud supposed to be the Dona Anita (now 137 days out), proved to be the Prince Regent, from Newcastle, with cattle.
