The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, JUNE 22, 1807, NELSON BOARD OF WORKS.

Friday, June 21. Present: Messrs. R. Burn, in the chair, Bentley, Carter, Rout, and Wright. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. . A letter was received from several ratepayers and inhabitants of Beachville and the adjacent properties, asking the Board to take iuto consideration the present staet of the road leading from the Haven-road to Beachville, and alleging that the damage caused to it by the last flood, is so great that, unless some repairs and improvements are speedily effected, it will probably become impassable during the present winter. The road in question is not 30 feet wide, and not yet conveyed to the Board, and consequently does not come under the provisions of the Act, the Board therefore resolved that if the ratepayers and inhabitants of Beachville think proper to raise a subscription amongst themselves for this purpose, the Surveyor to the Board be authorised to see it laid out iri the manner desired to the best advantage.; A letter was read from Mr. James Robertson, asking that the footpath in. Manuka-street towards the Brook-street' bridge, might be lowered, and the Secretary was ordered to write to Mr. Robertsou and also to the Rev. Father Garin (who some time since made a similar application), to the effect that if the sum of £8 should be contributed for this purpose in the following proportions —£s by Mr. Robertson, and £3 by the Rev. Father Garin, —the Board would supplement the requisite amount, and the work should be carried out. The following tenders were opened for the continuation of the road in Grovestreet west: —Dunlop and Cockram, £73 18s. 6d.j G. Burgoyne, £55; J. Williams, £100; R. K. Turner, £190. It was resolved that the tender of Mr. G. Burgoyne be accepted, on conditiou of his security being satisfactory. A letter from Messrs. Fisher, Curtis Brothers, and others, was read, calling the attention of the Board to the present state of the upper part of Van Diemen'sstreet and Trafalgar-street-south, and requesting that they may be repaired. The Secretary was instructed to employ two day-men to carry out these repairs. The Chairman drew the attention of the Board to the necessity of framing some bye-laws for cab-stands, and the Secretary undertook to draw out a rough draft of the same, to be submitted to the Board. «. Mr. Bentley called the attention of the Board to the fact that in several places on the Beach-road, logs are coustantly loose in the tide, and, by washing up against the sea wail, are likely to cause considerable injury to it. The Secretary undertook, in company with the Inspector of Nuisances, to look to this matter, and, if need be, to proceed against the offenders. The Board then adjourned until Friday, the sth of July next.
