THE VOLUNTEER BAND.
TO THE EDITOK OF THE 'NELSON EVENING MAIL.' Sir— ln your issue of yesterday, lam represented as having refused to accompany the Kifle Cadets to the Beach on the occasion of his Excellency's departure. I beg leave to state that I never refused to play ; but as other members of the Band were absent, and I was myself much fatigued, having formed one of the orchestra at the ball on the previous night, I told Captain M'Tavish that I was quite unable to do it, hoping that he would therefore not be too hard upon a young Band. I am doing my best to get up a good Band for the Volunteers, and I am very sorry that anything should have been imputed to me which could look like a want of energy or desire to do all I can to promote its success. Yours, &c., Louis Draeger, Band Master. Nelson, 27th April.
