MONEY MARKET.
The demand for money at the Bank is moderate, at from 2| to 2g per eeut. It is expected that the rate will be higher at the end of the month. Money is abundant. The Stock Exchange rate is 20s. Consols 3 per cent. ; 91 to 91 § for money. Exchequer Bills 17s. premium. Colonial Government securities : — New Zealand sixes, f 101 to £102. Tender for £300,000 for Canterbury, at six per cent, has been opened ; the minimum fixed was £92. £47,000 were applied for, and only £3,900 were taken up at or above the minimum. Wellington and New Zealand eight per cent. Debentures for £50,000, were taken up at and above the minimum, £106. It is surmised that Australian loans will soon he looked ou unfavorably by English capitalists.
