On the same eveuing he will be present at a ball iv the Provincial Hall. On Monday next, his Excellency wiil aold an undress levee, at 1 1 o'clock, in rhe Provincial Hall. He will afterwards attend the Cricket-ground, Victory-square, when a game of cricket is to be played between 11 of Nelson and 11 from the Brisk. . Yesterday a great number of towns people visited tbe Brisk, now lying in the harbor. They were delighted with the courtesy shown by the officers, and highly pleased with the admirable order and discipline they witnessed. Preparations are being made to commence the Bridge-street sewer, an improvement which is much needed, and which will Temove many inconveniences now complained of. ;* On Tuesday next the sailors of the Brisk will have ball practice at a target on the Boulder Bapk. The Rangitoto arrived at the Bluff, at 8. o'clock this morning, with the Suez -mail. * Unfortunately communication was stopped shortly afterwards, and our telegram has not reached us. On Tuesday evening the members of the Band of Hope, performed the "trial of John Barleycorn," in the Temperance Hail, before a large audience, who expressed great satisfaction with the enter■tainraent.-: 7 Thursday afternoon about half-past 4 o'clock, a smart shock of an earthquake was. felt ;in Nelson. It was felt only by persons who were sitting or standing still.
