LOSS OF THE SOUTH AUSTRALIAN.
We regret to learn from the Hokitika Evening Star, that telegraphic intelligence reached it, on the 3rd ult., of the wreck of the splended steamer South Australian, upon Coal Point, the northern extremity of Molyneux Bay. No particulars were giveu of the cause of the accident. It was supposed the South Australian had sought^shelter in the bay as the Phoebe had done on a previous occasion. All hands were, fortunately saved. The steamer was owned by Messrs. M'Meckan, Blackwood and Co., Melbourne, and was under the command of Captain Hugh Mackie, formerly of the Gothenburg. The South Australian was on her maideu trip after undergoing very extensive repairs and alterations at Melbourne to fit her specially for New Zealand trade. She was on her return passage to Melbourne when this disaster happened.
