"The introduction of' letter boxes was undoubtedly a capital idea, but it evidently needs improving upon now. The lightfingered gentry have made the discovery that they abstract with ease anything placed in these receptacles, and so fill their pockets at the expense of letter genders. It may be that the letters which prove to be worthless from their point of view are returned by these individuals to the boxes, but we should very much prefer that, the handling of our correspondence should be placed altogether out of their reach. Surely in these days of inventions and contrivances, somebody might hit upon a plan for the prevention of the post, office robberies. — City Press.
