The Nelson Evening Mail. THURSDAY, MARCH 28, 1867.
The election of Superintendent took place to-day in Nelsou and tbe various country polling places. We are unable to speak of the country, but there was
very little excitement iu the town, in fact so little, that it was scarcely apparent that ao election was going on. Tbe only external manifestation was the passiug to and fro of the cabs and carriages that were employed to take tbe voters to the poll. These were decorated with placards which bore the name "Curtis" principally, conveying a pretty plaiu iutitnetion that tbat candidate's star was in the ascendant, at least, in the city. There was the usual hurrying backwards and forwards of the supporters of the respective candidates, and small knots of individuals assembled at the street corners, discussing the pros aud cons of the election. Beside these signs of electoral activity tbere was little to indicate that a Superintendent was being chosen by the people. There were two polling places iu the city, one at the Provincial Hall, and the o-her at the Odd Fellow's Hall. At the above-named places the result of the polling at 4 o'clock, was as follows : —
Curtis. Barnicoat, Provincial Hall 242 73 Odd Fellows' Hall 95 63
