WIND AND WEATHER.

This Dat, 9 a.m. Wellington.—N.W., light, gloomy. Lyttelton.—N.W., light, drizzling rain. Christchurch.—N.W., light, gloomy. Donedik.—S.E., light breeze, overcast. Port Chalmers.—S.W., light breeze, clouds. The steamer Lord Ashley left Sydney at 1-30 p.m., on 13th instant, with strong head wind until the following day, after which light northerly winds were experienced until her arrival off Hokitika on the 18th, at 5 a.m.; left same day and arrived at Greymouth 1 p.m.; left at 2 30 p.m., and arrived at Nelson at 11 a.m. on the 19th. The s.s. Wellington left Wellington, at 9-30 p'm., yesterday, and arrived here, at 9 a.m., today. Fine weather all the way. It was with sincere pleasure that we welcomed the s.s. Ahuriri from Nelson and Wellington on Monday last, and as will be seen by advertisement in another column she is intended to be kept in the. trade for some little time longer. The Ahuriri is a deservedly popular, as well as lucky boat, •and it would be a great loss to Westport if she was withdrawn from the line. Although it is quite possible that she may not pay at present as might he expected, it is certain that both the vessel and her commander are earning golden opinions from the public here, and as Westport progresses, as is certain she will, the boat that stuck to the place in comparative adversity will not be forgotten inprosperity. In speaking highly of the Ahuriri we only echo the ideas of Westport people.—Buller Express.
