It has swept away the whole block of buildings from the Golden Fleece Hotel to Cookham House. Tho destruction of property has been most serious, the damagtr being estimated at tweuty-fivo thousand' pounds. Wellington, Nov. 6, 2-3' op.m. The war steamship Challenger, Commodore Maguire, with General' "Chute and Staff, arrived this morning. Accounts from Tauranga' say — " We aro hemmed in on all sides by the enemy from Tarauaki, Thames, Waikato, Arivveras, Ngatiporoas, These bloodthirsty savages, says the Tepapa correspondent of the H. B. Herald, are within a few miles of our town, ready to pounce upon us."
