A bill has been brought before the Assembly by the Government for the purpose of putting a stop to. "land sharking" at Government Land Sales, by making the practice a misdemeanor, and rendering the extortioners, who in times past made a living by it, amenable to the laws, and liable to imprisonment not exceeding two -years. The bill goes on even further — it provides that any person who shall, either directly or indirectly, offer or propose to accept, money, or other valuable consideration, as an inducement to abstain irom competing as a purchaser for Crown lands shall be liable toa fine of ;£2O-i. and imprisonment for a year.
