NELSON RAILWAY ACT.
An Act to authorise the Reservation and Appropriation of Waste Lands of theOown in the Province of Nelson, for the Construction of a Railway from the Port of Nelson to the West Coast of the Province. —Passed October:], 18fi6. Preamble.—Whereas it is expedient to promote the construction of a railway connecting the Port of Nelson^ with the West Coast of the Province of Nelson*: Be it therefore enacted, by the General Assembly cf New Zealand, in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: — 1. Short Title.—The sluort title of this Act shall be, " The Nelson, Cobden, and Westport Railway Land Act, 1866." •2. Superintendent may reserve Land.—lt shall be lawful for the Governor in Council, when any person shiill have contracted with the Superintendent of the Province of Nelson for the construction of a railway from the port of Nelson to Cobden and Westport,. pursuant to any Act or Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the said Province of NeJson which may hereafter be passed authorising the Superintendent to make any such contract; and shall have given such security as may be required by sacli Act or Ordinance for'the punctual fulfilment of such contract to reserve from sale sucfi portions of the waste lands of the Crown in the said province as may be agreed upon between the Superintendent and such contractor, and be authorised by sueh Actor Ordinance of the Provincial Council; and upon the completion of the said railway being certified to the Waste Lands Board of the said province by the Superintendent, the Commissioner of Crown Lands, : and the Provincial Engineer, by writing under their : hands, such person shall be entitled to"a grunt of the land so reserved: Provided, that the land to be so reserved from sale aad appropriated shall not.exejeed JO,OOO acres for each mile of .such railway, and shaW .be land having a drainage ta the valleys through which sueh railsvay shall pass, and that no grant shall be issued for any part of the land so reserved and appropriated until the whole.of such railway slwilr have been completed: Provided also, that every Act or Ordinance a>ithorising any such contract shall be reserved for the signification of the Governor'? pleasure thereon. . , 3.
