LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY.
Wednesday, July 4. The lion. Major Peacock brought up tho report of the select committee appointed to draw up a reply to Ids Excellency's opening speech, and moved the reading thereof. Major Richmond was appointed Chairman of Committees. A number of committees were appointed. The hon. Mr. Prcndurgast moved for leave to bring in a bill to amend the law of partnership, and tho lion. Mr. Johnston for leave to introduce a bill to provide for the protection of oyster fisheries. Both bills were read a first time. Thursday, July 5. On the motion of tlie hon. Col. Peacock, an address was adopted in reply to his Excellency's speech. It concurred in all its statements. •: Tlie lion. Mr. Prendergast moved for leave to bring in a bill to consolidate and amend the laws relating to resident magistrates and justices of the peace in their civil jurisdiction. Leave was granted, and tlie bill read a first time. In reply to the hon. Lieut.-Col. Whitmore, tlie hon. J. Johnston said it was not the intention of the Government to bring in a new bill to amend the Native Lands Act, ISOu, until they had further time to watch the acting of the existing bill, and find out in what its defects lay.
