Chief Justice Arney and Mr. Justice Johnston have, under powers giveu by the Intestates Estates Act, 1865, published iv the Gazette the following rule, to take effect on the Ist June :— " The general rules of practice and procedure of the Supreme Court of New Zealand now in force, so far as the same is consistent with the provisions of the Intestates Estates Act, 1860, shall apply, so far as they are applicable, to applications made to the Court under the said Act, and the, conduct and despatch of all business matters aud things to be done in relation thereto." The London correspondent of the Wellington Independent says that the Weymouth, with the Cook Strait's cable on board, al safe and tested, was 'fixed to leave Gravesend on the 24th March. Just before the cable was completed, two faults were found in it, and had to be cut out. This, was owing to some malicious person driving a stiff needle or fine spike into the core of the cable. The Government have called for tenders for one or more steamers for 20 days, or for the time necessary for submerging the cable, the steamers to be available within 21 days after the arrival of the WejmOuth. The Otago Daily Times of 15th instant, says : — " A few days ago we reported that two men named Bowstidge and Duncan had left Pelchet Bay on the 2nd instant, to proceed to Cape Saunders for the purpose of barracouta fishing, and had not returned. The Water Police have been making inquiries, but no traces of the men have been found ; aud as they had but two days' provisions with them, and their boat was an exceedingly frail one, it is feared that they have perished. Another fisherman named Charles Brown, who left Duuediu for Cape Saunders in a small dingy on the Bth instant, is also missing." We observe from the Otago Provincial Government Gazette that the Mount Ida Goldfields boundary has been extended. We • understand that, this district is, slowly but surely progressing.
