Nelson Artisan's Association. — Tbe first social meeting of the Nelson Artisan's and Improvement Association was held on Wednesday evening, at their rooms in Bridgestreet. Mr. "William Haddow, the President, was in the chair. This was the last meeting in the quarter. The chairman delivered an address and the Secretary read a report of the quarter's transactions, which disclosed [the progress the Society had made. Several readings were given, and songs sung by the members, who appeared to enjoy the meeting very much. The meeting for general purposes is every "Wednesday evening, and it is intended to hold social meetings every quarter. The meeting was an experiment and proved a great success. At a recent sale of land in Southland upwards of £52,500 was realised. We believe this sum was received for one purchase on behalf of John Elles, Esq., Kelvedon Hall, Essex, England, and Penzauce, Mount Gambier, South Australia, and the locality of the selection is said to be ou the Five River Plain, —- aS. Times.
