Friday, May 25, 1566. Present : Messrs. Wright, Carter, Rout, Watts, Bentley, and Burn ; Mr. Bentley in the chair. The minutes of last meeting were read and confinned. The following tenders were handed in for work from Collingwood Bridge to Trafalgar-street north. J. W. Potter, £256 75., with clay puddled between piles : £192 9s. if filled up with silt or gravel. James Jennings, £251 11s. ; W. C. Murfin & Co., £254. The tenders not having "been considered eligible, it was resolved that the Board do the work by day labor, as the cheapest mode. Tenders were opened, as follows, for Bridge and approaches to Nile and Tasman Streets ; W. Akersten, £395; W. C. Murfin & Co., £399; Edwards and Fuller, £430 10s. The tender of W. Akersten was accepted. It was ordered that a lamp be placed at Corbett's corner. It was resolved that tenders be advertised for work in Hampden-street. It was ordered that a cover be put on the old well in Trafalgar-street, near Sherratt's blacksmith's shop. It was resolved that a public urinal be erected on Mr. Potter's ground, in Trafalgar-street. Resolved that a reward of £5 be oifered for the conviction of the thief who stole the lamp near Rnclan brewery. Mr. Levien having applied for some gravel to be put in front of Ills shop in Bridge-street, it was resolved that as soon as gravelling is required it be attended to. In reference to a complaint from Morrison, Sclanders, & Co., as to the nuisance from M'Conkey's engine, it was resolved that the Board see the effect of M'Conkey's alterations before taking further action. On the report of Messrs. Bentley and Carter, relative to work required in Washington "Valley, the surveyor was instructed to prepare specifications for the same. Messrs. Bentley and Burn reported the result of an interview they had with the Provincial SecrPtary, relative to some nuisances complained of by Messrs. Vickerman and Cusack. A discussion arose as to the desirability of increasing the efficiency of the present system of inspecting nuisances, which was postponed. It was resolved that Messrs. Burn and Watts report to the next meeting, relative -to the necessity for continuing the gravel in Grove-street, to which Mr. Watkinshad drawn the attention of the board. Mr. Howell applied to the board to aid him in clearing the original watercourse in Brook-street. It was resolved that the board could not undertake the work, but Mr. Howell was at liberty to take as much gravel as he pleased. Permission was given to Mr. J. J. Hornby to put down posts at the edge of the footpath, and erect a verandah in front of his premises, Bridge-street. The balance in the Bank to the credit of the board, was stated to be £200 10s. 2d. The following accounts were passed : — Sheratt, 7/ 8?. 2d.; Barton, 30/ Is.; Dun Mountain Company, 30/ 2s. 2d.; E. Moore, 1/ Is. ; Bray, 7s. fid.; Jennings, 11/ 13s. 4d. ; Secretary, 20/ 16s. Sd.; Newport, 100/; Labor, 40/ 2s. 4d. The Board adjourned until the 7th June.
