Mr. Peabody gave another £100,000 for the same purpose as his former endowment, making in all a quarter of a million. The Eoyal Commission on the Jamaica insurrection is still sitting. Governor Eyre has received numerous addresses from influential classes, •white and colored, expressing sympathy and thanks for his wisdom and energy in suppressing the rebellion. The Board of Trade returns for last year show an excess of income over expenditure of £3,248,213. The Colenso Fund subscription reaches £4,000. There is much discussion among English churchmen as to the alteration of the Liturgy, etc. The Government and Archbishop of Canterbury decline to alter it, and are censured by the ritualists.
