The Lyttelton left Blenheim on Fridsry morning, experienced stormy weather, and was obliged to take refuge in Croixelles. She arrived here on Sunday morning. There is a correspondence in Ihe W. C. Times of the 4th and sth instant, respecting the late race between the Tararua and South Australian steamers. On the 4th a letter appeared from Mr-. J. Wliite, the Tararua's agent, stating that that vessel airived otf Hokitika two hours and a half before her rival. This ■was answered the following day, by Mr. A. B. Bain, who was a passenger by the South Australian, and who states that that vessel left Nelson fifteen minutes aftor the Tararua, passed her off' Cape Farewell, and at 5 o'clock on the morning of the 2nd, found herself so far south of Hokitika, having overshot thafc port, that it took her until 9 o'clock to get back to the roadstead, where the Tararua had anchored at 6.30. On Monday rnornin : last the paddle steamer Bruce arrived from Okarita bringing a few passenges, and 2,573 ozs. of gold — this with previous quantities viihin the week, making 8,000 ozs. from that port. -<3J6t' ozs. were shipped by the Barwon for Sydney, repi eventing a -value of upwards of £BO,OUO. — W.
