OTAGO.
The week has opened with a little more show of business, but quietness is still the present characteristic of trade. The arrivals of the Helenslee and Strathspey, from Britain, have placed a few more •goods in importers'" hands; but a very considerable part of the shipments in both vessels had been previously placed to arrive. Flour remains unchanged as to price-, sales only of small lots are taking place. With the prospect of further auction sales of sugar, there is at present scarcely any private trade doing. Teas are dull, and largo sales at present not heard of, values, however, remain as last given, and are not likely to alter. New ales in bulk are inquired for, jand..no difficulty is experienced in placing any known brands. We hear of the disposal of a considerable parcel of M'Ewan's, a brand now favorably known .in this market. Very little doing in bottled stouts; next to nothing in bottled ales. Provisions, butter, .cheese, hams, and bacon all very scarce, scarcely any jparcels coming forward.—D, times, March 28.
