The decision of the Waihi Gold-min-' ing Co. to abolish the system of cooperative ("all in the job") contraots and to reintroduce the proprietary contract was tho subject of criticism this morning by Mr. R. Forf several years it had been worked all Waihi, but it was done away with replaced by the co-operative systenttj under pressure from the Federation.-' "Now," Mr. Semple went on to say,' "after a six months' struggle the firs A thing the company has done is to re-! establish the old system of oompeti* tivei contracts and to allow no such? thing as the co-operative contract." Irft respect to compulsory arbitration, MrJ Semple said that an attoonpt was nowf being made to compel workmen to joins an organisation tho mine-owners ed wisest, thereby taking their dual liberty from them. It was per-« fectly certain, Mr. Scrapie said, that( the best Waihi miners, and the major-*, ity of them, would not submit to'th?H< form of what Ihey considered to b<* tyranny. Although the Federation hacl used no effort to compel them to come( awny, they had voluntarily declared] that they would not accept the imposed by the company. The mine( officials would fail when the time cam* for them to get the mine fully manned.
