Storemen's Union

LETTER TO MEMBERS.

Comrades, —The so-called paper of justice, the "Dominion," published on November 7 a paragraph stating that our union had refused a certain firm's employees, viz., storemen, permission to alter the hours of work to suit themselves, and that a petition signed by the men had been presented. I readily admit that a petition had been presented, but when I made inquiries at the firm I found that clerks had also signed, so I placed the same before the meeting, when the following resolution was unanimously, carried: —

"That the secretary be instructed to refuse applications from firms re alteration of award hours whose storemen are not members of this union, but whenever the stcremen becomo members the secretary to again place the application before the next meeting for their favorable consideration."

I sent word to this effect to the firm in question, but I do object to the "Dominion" taking the information from one party and not consulting mc upon it. Had it done so, I should have placed it all before it, and so would have prevented a false conception being placed on the union.

Well, I am truly glad to say the membership is increasing in fine style; over 30 new members in two daye, and still they keep rolling in. I am afraid if things keep going on like this, it will be necessary for the Waterside Union to enlarge the office and have an additional number on the 'phone. By the way, you can always get mc by ringing 3015, and I'll be there.

It has now been decided to hold meetings every second Tuesday in the month at the office, and all members are requested to attend, and an invitation is given to all storemen intending to become members.

Any members who hear of storemen entering on new service with other firms please notify mc, because they are compelled to become members. —R. A. SIMPSON, Assistant Sec.
